On Friday we learned about many different things related to social networks like Facebook and Twitter. The first thing we reviewed is that Facebook and Twitter have many differences. One big difference is that for Facebook, in order to be able to communicate or see their wall posts, you have to know that person, or in some cases know a friend of that person. For Twitter, on the other hand is different, in that you don't have to know that person at all to be able to see their "tweets". In fact you can just follow whoever you want for the most part.
For me Twitter is very new. I never had a twitter before until this class and we had to make a twitter account. My twitter username is Ethan Eraybar. You can follow me if you want, but I'm still trying to get the hang of it. So far though, I am liking Twitter. I think it can be very beneficial for professional development with connecting to other music educators in the world and community. It is a good way to get to important information out to your ensemble as well. For example when I become a band director I may make a Twitter account for the band and I will use that to relay information to the students in a quick and efficient manner. Because students these days don't usually check their email all the time, students connect with Facebook and Twitter more often.
Overall I am excited to keep learning about new ways to connect with the students, the more I know about the technology out there, the more I can use it to help me grow as an educator in the future.
